Residents of Fairfield County have always taken pride in the rich history of our area. One way you can do even more is to become a Fairfield Heritage Association volunteer.![]() Being a volunteer brings the satisfaction of knowing you are serving your community and making a difference, as well as the joy of meeting new friends, learning new things and having fun! Both museums use volunteers to serve as docents. Docents guide visitors through the museum and share with them the history of the home, its residents and its furnishings.
You are not required to have knowledge of history or antiques. Training materials have been prepared and are furnished to each volunteer…and you are never expected to “know everything.” It is fun to learn new things!Volunteers also work as receptionists in the museums to welcome visitors, sell tickets, and staff the gift shop. Volunteers in the museums are asked to volunteer a minimum of one afternoon a month between 1 pm 4 pm, from April through mid-December. Volunteers are needed for special events throughout the y ear: Pilgrimage/Tour of Homes first weekend in May, Candlelight Tour of Churches in December, Campfire to Courthouse tours of school children in the spring and fall, History Walks, and High Teas just to name a few. As a special bonus trips are taken to historic sites.FHA volunteers are invited to make daylong historic travel trips around Ohio by bus or car several times throughout the year. FHA travelers have enjoyed each other’s company as they journeyed to Marion and the Harding Museum, Akron and the First Ladies Museum, Columbus and the Ohio State House and Governor’s Residence, Chillicothe and Adena, Parkersburg and Blennerhassett Island, and Cincinnati and the Taft Museum. Pictured are FHA volunteers approaching the reconstructed mansion on Blennerhassett Island in the middle of the Ohio River. You can sign-up for volunteer hours as your schedule permits. Need to volunteer from home? FHA appreciates having volunteers who are willing to make phone calls from home or work on other smaller projects.
