The Fairfield Heritage Association began to offer history walks in the fall of 2002. Re-enactors in authentic costumes began to portray former members of the Lancaster community. The first was a cemetery walk (2002), and the second a history walk (2003) that introduced tour-goers to the first owners of five historic homes in downtown Lancaster and other prominent citizens who lived between 1801 and 1880. These events were followed by two more cemetery walks (2003 and 2004) and a history walk (2004) introducing merchants, mechanics and notable persons from 1820-1881. In May of 2005 “A Walk Through Time” led visitors through 200 years of Lancaster’s black history, and in October a cemetery walk was again held in Elmwood Cemetery.
