Fifth graders from
Fairfield County
Schools will have
the opportunity to
explore the history
of Lancaster and
Fairfield County
through the Campfire
to Courthouse
program October
19-20 and 25-28.
They will climb the
stairs at the
Sherman House Museum
that Gen. William T.
Sherman used as a
boy and try out the
not-so-modern
kitchen utensils.
After a quick tour
of Samuel
Maccracken's 13-room
mansion they will
have the opportunity
to pick up a quill
dipped in ink and
try to imagine
schoolwork before
ballpoint pen or
computers.
For over 25 years both city and county schools have
been participating
in the Campfire to
Courthouse program.
Just as many of
their parents
remember their
Campfire to
Courthouse
experience, today's
students enjoy the
opportunity to not
just read about
history but walk
through historic
downtown Lancaster.
