Evolution of Barns to be Featured at Spring Dinner Meeting

"Barns stir the emotions. They remind us of our agricultural heritage, evoking a sense of security,
tradition and pride of being close to nature and the land."

Nathaniel Stitzlein
Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, August 10, 2003.

Stitzlein will present an after dinner program highlighting his work to preserve several barns on his family's farm outside of Baltimore. Two of the large barns were moved to the property. Both were built in the 1800s. One was completely disassembled and reconstructed but the second was moved as a complete structure.

He will also present an overview of the styles of barns found in Fairfield County, discuss why barns are being lost and suggest ways they can be modified and preserved to be useful in the future.
